British Airways pleads guity to Price Fixing

The Competition Bureau Canada has announced that British Airways has joined the rank of air carriers pleading guilty to fixing surcharges on carriage of air cargo on certain routes between 2002-2006. BA is the fifth air carrier to plead guilty in these proceedings and the fine of CAD$4.5 Million (Approx USD$4.2 million) brings total fines levied in the case to CAD$14.6 Million (USD$13.5 Million).

BA, like Air France, KLM, Martinair, and Qantas before it, have benefited fromm assisting investigators and pleading guilty under the Bureau’s leniency program. The Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency with authority to prosecute breaches of Canada’s competition law with criminal sanctions.
