Rolls Royce Developing Unmanned Drone Ships

Rolls Royce is developing a platform that will enable land-based ship captains to remotely pilot unmanned cargo ships in a move the company says will reduce costs and waste, according to Bloomberg.

The company hopes the new technology will be a game changer for the the global shipping industry. 90% of world trade is carried by sea.

Regulatory and safety concerns can be expected to pose major hurdles to adoption in the short and medium terms, however.
