The Cargo Incident Notification System, known as “CINS”, is a venture of CMA-CGM, Evergreen, Hapag Lloyd, Maersk, and MSC. The TT Club and International Group also participated.
Originally envisioned as a tool for monitoring hazardous freight, the system will track information related to all incidents involving containerized cargo. If successful in providing useful and actionable information that can reduce incidents, the system may expand further to include bulk and other cargoes.
Locus and causality of damages are frequent issues in cargo disputes that can dramatically affect the outcome. While it is impossible to say what impact this improved information may have on litigation, better evidence can result in better justice while bad facts may make bad law.
