Improving rail safety in Canada: Minister tables the Railway Safety Act review report in the House of Commons
OTTAWA — The Railway Safety Act (RSA) review report, Stronger Ties: A Shared Commitment to Railway Safety, was tabled today in the House of Commons by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. Minister Cannon launched a review of the RSA in December 2006. The report presents the findings, including more than 50 recommendations to improve rail safety in Canada.

Transport Minister receives final report on Air France accident
OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today acknowledged receipt of the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada's final report into the Air France accident at Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto on August 2, 2005.
Ship fined $80,000 for polluting Vancouver Harbour
VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced that the federal government has successfully prosecuted the Motor Vessel Andre, a Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier for spilling over 7,500 litres of oil into Vancouver Harbour. The pollution incident occurred on July 4, 2006 while the vessel was bunkering fuel oil at anchorage in the Port of Vancouver.
Transport minister introduces amendments to the Canada marine act
OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today introduced proposed amendments to the Canada Marine Act. These amendments will strengthen the operating framework for Canada Port Authorities (CPAs) by modifying the current borrowing regime, providing for access to contribution funding, and clarifying some aspects of governance.
